“It was like a feast for the senses,” recalls John Knepper, who owns the famed Kneppers and Kneepers in Philadelphia.
Knecker and his wife, Amy, started serving vegan food for the first time in 2010, when the family was visiting relatives in Oregon.
Kinepper is the creator of The Vegan Menu, a cookbook published in 2011 that features more than 30 recipes and a guide to making the perfect vegan Thanksgiving meal.
He also owns a vegan restaurant in New York City.
“I don’t think we had a lot of choice but to embrace our holiday rush,” he says.
“There was a time when people thought, ‘Well, it’s not that bad to eat vegan.’
I mean, that’s it.” “
You just go out and have a great Thanksgiving dinner.
I mean, that’s it.”
The family has also celebrated Christmas in the past, including in 2014 with a vegan menu.
“It’s a huge tradition, but I think the people are embracing it,” says Kneiter.
